Security Jobs: Director of Security (International Compliance)

In the past I’ve been asked why most of the jobs on SecurityRecruiter.com’s Security Job page are information security jobs or cyber security jobs. The answer is simple. Supply and Demand!

We'd like to have more high-level physical security jobs, corporate security jobs, risk management jobs and compliance jobs.  When our phones ring and a company in need is on the other end, more often than not, they've been challenged to find highly specialized information security talent.  We're working to get all kinds of security jobs to share with you but we have to go where supply and demand takes us.

Today I’ll be writing up a new search that is part information security, part physical security but mostly international regulatory compliance, security policies and security procedures. The role reports to the Chief Compliance Officer of a $650M company and comes in at the Director level.

This role is not purely IT Security or purely physical security. It contains elements of both but is primarily a role to align a global company’s risk management, security policies and security procedures with the various compliance regulations that exist across the globe.

This role, like many roles we’re fortunate to work on at SecurityRecruiter.com is a newly created position required as a result of different compliance regulations being created in different parts of the world.

Companies that operate in different countries have complex rules and regulations to understand. Understanding regulations is not enough though.

This Director of Security will be responsible for building policies and procedures and also for building a training delivery mechanism to ensure that employees of this company around the globe understand how to operate in their unique host nations.

i don't know...but everytime i see a job posted on your site, i get really excited. Then i end up talking with you about it and believe me we end up talking for a looooong time...but at the end it always seems that i'm not a right fit for any of the positions you have posted and yet i am a right fit through a different headhunter and i just want to know...why is that?

In response to "a security guy" -- Jeff is a total pro; highly respected in the industry and a good person with a lot of heart. Prominent companies utilize Jeff's skills and services because he delivers the goods; he's one of the few remaining true recruiters (not E-Cruiters), and is highly valued in the marketplace as a trusted resource for many companies.

Knowing Jeff as I do, it may be best to discuss your concerns with him in private - versus doing it in a public forum.

    David: A Corporate Security Guy
I have had the opportunity to work with Jeff and his company. I have found that Jeff and his company is one of the best in the industry.
Yes, he recruits for specific jobs with very specific requirements. Keep in mind that those requirements, are set by the company that hired Jeff, not by him.
Most of the positions he recruits for, require substantial experience in a plethora of areas to be considered.

You may find that other recruiters tell you that you are qualified just to get your business. Did they get you an interview or a job?
I know that Jeff and his reputation to hire the best is something you will
not find with most recruiting firms. The bottom line is identifying the best person for the position and that is what Jeff has done for many years.

It is a very competitive market in the security industry and the competition is fierce. Jeff has the obligation to introduce only the best qualified to his
respective firms that hire him and unfortunately that limits who is selected for recommendation.

To "A Security Guy": I don't know how to respond to you because you didn't identify yourself. Not knowing what your background looks like, the best I can do here is to speculate. There is no reason to speculate here though.

The resopnse from "not a security guy" sums it up. I'll always talk through an issue with anyone even if we have different points of view.

The requirements companies put in front of me are extremely difficult to deliver to. I'm only paid when I deliver to my client's requirements, not the requirements I think they should put in place.
