SecurityRecruiter.com Security Jobs Report 06.15.12

It has been a while since I shared an update on the searches we’re working on. 

Northern New Jersey Success!
Most recently, we filled two very technical java developer roles within the information security department of a Fortune 100 company.  The HR Manager with whom we have a significant amount of contact told us that they’d previously interviewed 60 candidates before our two candidates arrived.  We’ve now presented a total of 5 candidates for 3 positions.  Two positions are filled and we have an offer out on a Lead Technical Specialist role with this same company.
I’ve often made claims that we do precision work.  Today, I’m simply sharing statistics to back up my claim.

$200,000 + Base, Bonus, Total Compensation at or near $300,000

On my desk today are three very high-level secure software development / application security jobs.  One search is a Principal Consultant.  This role will report directly to the CEO in a 200+ person consulting firm that does nothing but secure software development and application security consulting.  This person will have one peer who is also a Principal Consultant.  This role is very high level and is essentially an evangelist role covering the topics of secure software development and application security.  Opportunities to write, to publish, to do public speaking and to become well-known across industry come with this role.  Compensation for this role exceeds $200,000 in base salary and bonus should take the total package close to $300,0000. This person will live West of the Mississippi.  The preferred location is Northern California or the Pacific Northwest.

High $100s base plus bonus
Seattle, WA

This role is reserved for an application security / secure software development specialist who has a background in consulting.  This position is heavily customer facing so this consultant’s interpersonal skills must be very polished.  The nature of a Managing Consultant’s work is that they become the point of contact for one or several clients.

High $1002 base plus bonus
San Francisco Bay Area

This is a very technical hands on leadership role in the realm of application security and secure software development.  This manager will likely be a point of contact for one or more clients in the San Francisco Bay Area.  This person will manage, guide and mentor consultants and senior consultants.

Palo Alto, CA
$170,000+, Bonus

This is not a consulting role.  Rather, it is an in-house corporate role in a Cloud Computing, Software as a Service, Platform as a Service environment where software is the company’s business.  This client is placing a significant amount of attention on hiring the most talented application security engineer they can find.  They’ll relocate someone to the Bay Area.

This role requires us to deliver a cyber security leader who has worked in highly industrial environments with companies that operate around world.  Examples of what he CIO wants include candidates from Oil & Gas, Mining, Heavy Manufacturing…industrial companies where users are engineers and people in the fields wearing hard hats and steel toed boots.  This CISO will be building an information security, technology risk management and global privacy program from the ground up. The environment is a very large SAP ERP environment where some of the IT functions have been outsourced.

$130,000 - $140,000+, Bonus

This brand new role has been created to report to the CISO mentioned in the last description.  This is an opportunity for a seasoned IT Risk Management, Governance and Privacy professional to build a program from the ground up.

This is a newly created role positioned reporting under the CISO as described above.  What is unique for me about this position is that if I find a Lead Security Engineer, a Master Security Engineer, a Senior Security Engineer who is not yet holding a Security Architect title, this could be the career move that would make such a title change happen.  This person needs to be very technical while simultaneously demonstrating an understanding of business.  They’ll need to communicate heavily with business customers so well-developed interpersonal skills must be present.

The focus of this Fortune 200 company role in Beijing China is all about protecting Intellectual Property.  Our client has decided that they’ll consider a non-Chinese citizen who possesses prior experience working in China and the required skills.  However, the Chinese part of this company suggests that a local Chinese citizen would be the best choice.

Executive Package

This is a brand new position in a 400 person company that went public earlier in the year.  This Cloud Computing environment needs a cyber security leader who possesses a very deep technical information security background that includes experience in a SaaS, PaaS, IaaS hosting environment.  This person will also be well versed in the SDLC, will understand secure software development and will be able to articulate application security concepts to people on the software development side of the company. 

Looking Forward
