The biggest professional challenge of my career: communication | LinkedIn
'via Blog this'
I'm on a roll. I keep finding great articles highlighting the importance of communication skills. These skills are critical skills for leaders but they're no less important for technology professionals who don't aspire to lead but aspire to innovate and to contribute.
This article that I found on LinkedIn is one person's personal story of moving from one high-tech company to another and how he had to learn a totally different style of communication to succeed in the second company. A great read for any technology professional.
Why am I so focused on communication skills? I just wrote up a search description for a newly created Director of Business Intelligence job in Atlanta with one of my Fortune 100 clients. Candidates for this position need to have deep backgrounds in business intelligence and data warehousing.
Once the technology boxes have been checked the rest of the search requirements revolve around me finding candidates who possess executive-level communication skills. The ability to present, persuade, influence, sell, negotiate and collaborate is exceedingly important at Director, VP and "C" levels.
Master the communication skills required at executive levels and your compensation could one day soar to $200,000 or more.
