Exercise Discipline When You Interview

If you’ve had a lousy boss or you’ve worked for a company that was low on corporate values, it is best to keep this information to yourself when you interview.

Most definitely ask questions during your interview to determine if the company you’re interviewing with and the perspective boss you’re interviewing with has values that align with your personal values.  However, a candidate I sent on an interview in the past stepped over the line in this area.

I’m not sure what the question was the pushed this button in the candidate but the candidate explained in great detail how his boss and the executive team above his boss didn't get it when it came to information security.  Apparently, this dialogue went on for a while and lots of details were included.

As true as this candidate’s story might have been, the way this information was received by the CIO he was interviewing with in the prospective new organization didn't go over well. In fact, it went over so poorly that this part of the interview conversation ended up being the end of the interview conversation.
