Cyber Security Vulnerability and Patch Report for the Week of August 17, 2015





Important Security Updates

Adobe Flash Player: Adobe has released version to fix at least 34 vulnerabilities. Updates are available from Adobe’s website.
Apple iOS: Apple has released version 8.4.1 of its iOS. Updates are available through the device or through Apple’s website.
Apple iTunes: Apple has released version 12.2.2 (64-bit and 32-bit) of iTunes. Updates are available from Apple’s website.
Apple OS X: Apple has released updates for OS X Yosemite, Mavericks, and Mountain Lion to address security vulnerabilities. Update to version Yosemite 10.10.5 or apply Security Update 2015-006 for Mavericks and Mountain Lion.
Apple Safari: Apple has released updates for Safari 8.0.8 for OS X Yosemite v10.10.4, Safari 7.1.8 for OS X Mavericks v10.9.5, Safari 6.2.8 for OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.5. Updates are available from Apple’s website.
Dropbox: Dropbox has released version 3.8.8 for its file hosting program. Updates are available at Dropbox’s website. [See Citadel’s warning below]
Google Chrome: Google has released Google Chrome version 44.0.2403.155. Updates are available from within the browser or from Google Chrome’s website.
KeePass: KeePass has released version 2.30 of its Professional Edition open source password manager. Updates are available from the KeePass website.
LastPass: LastPass has released version 3.2.16 of LastPass for Windows. Updates are available from the LastPass website.
Lenovo Service Engine BIOS: Lenovo has released a updates for several notebooks and advisories to address a security vulnerability the BIOS. Details on the updates are available in the security advisories for Lenovo notebooks and desktops.
Microsoft Patch Tuesday: Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday released 14 updates to address vulnerabilities within Windows operating systems, Internet Explorer, and Office products. Details on the updates are available from Microsoft’s website.
Mozilla Firefox: Mozilla has released version 40.0.2 to address critical security vulnerabilities. Updates are available within the browser or from Mozilla’s website.
Skype: Skype has released Skype Updates are available from the program or Skype’s website.

Java SE 8 Update 51 [Citadel recommends removing or disabling Java from your browser. Java is a major source of cyber criminal exploits. It is not needed for most internet browsing. If you normally browse the Web with Firefox, for example, disable the Java plugin in Firefox and use an alternative browser — such as Chrome, IE9, Safari, etc — with Java enabled to browse only the sites that require it.]

Cisco Multiple Products: Secunia reports patched vulnerabilities in Cisco’s Nexus 3000 Series Switches, Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA), Unified E-Mail Interaction Manager, Unified Web Interaction Manager, and TelePresence Video Communication Server (VCS). Apply updates. Secunia also reports unpatched security vulnerabilities in Cisco’s TelePresence Video Communication Server (VCS). No official solutions are currently available.
Microsoft Multiple Products: Secunia reports patched vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2012, .NET Framework, and System Center Operations Manager 2012. Apply updates.
Oracle Linux: Secunia reports multiple patched vulnerabilities for Oracle Linux. Apply updated packages via the yum or rpm utility.

Vulnerability management is a key element of cyber security management. Cyber criminals take over user computers by writing computer programs that “exploit” vulnerabilities in operating systems (Windows, Apple OS, etc) and application programs (Adobe Acrobat, Office, Flash, Java, etc). When software companies find a vulnerability, they usually issue an update patch to fix the code running in their customer’s computers.

Our focus is on software typically found in the small or home office (SOHO) or that users are likely to have on their home computer.
