Take a look at the Society of Information Risk ...</title><content type='html'>1. Take a look at the Society of Information Risk Analysts. We are dedicated to advancing the theory and practice of information security risk analysis. The website is http://www.societyinforisk.org and the mailing list is at http://lists.societyinforisk.org/mailman/sira. In addition to the mail list and website, there is a reading list on the site which contains quite a number of recommended books on information risk management and analysis. There is also a new SANS class on risk management.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. I find Twitter to be one of the best resources for staying on top of what is happening in the information security space. Of course, that assumes that you are following a bunch of twitter folk who are interested in and knowledgeable about information security and that you are committed to keeping up. Probably the most inclusive list of information security focused folks on Twitter is a group referred to as the SecurityTwits. You can find a list of them at http://www.infosecramblings.com/securitytwits. Industry conferences like RSA are great although I find more value in the hallway track than the presentations on occasion. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3. I&amp;#39;m not even going to attempt to answer that question. I know and respect so many great information security practitioners and picking just one is not possible.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4. I tend to try and find mentors in positions that are somewhere along the path of my career plan, preferably occupying the role that is the next step in my plan. To that end, the best mentor would be one is holding the job she wants. I found my current mentor on twitter.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am always happy to answer question and connect people. Getting to the probability of a future event, like any forecasting exercise, can be somewhat subjective. Often it requires using a gut feeling, which might be more akin to art than science.
